About Me: I was born and raised in North Pole, Alaksa. I have three siblings, all older than me. I currently attend UAF. When I was in 8th and 9th grade I went on two short exchanges to Itadori Japan. The second year I went I decided I wanted to take after my brother and go on a student exchange. So my junior year of high school I was an exchange student with the North Pole Rotary Club to Koeln, Germany. I loved my year abroad. While in Germany I developed an interest in the Rotex program. Rotex is a group of rebounds (former exchange students) who get all the people involved in the exchange program together and give them a weekend of something to do. I've tried since I returned to Alaska to start a Rotex program here in Fairbanks and North Pole. My main obstacle was that there isn't enough man power....not many rebounds stick around the Fairbanks area long enough to form a group. I think through rotaract I will be able to acheive the goal of forming some sort of Rotex group. I also want to be involved in other aspects of Rotaract. Community service is very appealing to me I am very determined to make a difference in our community.
Rotaract to me:My family alone is very involved in Rotary....my father is a former member of the North Pole Rotary club. My oldest brother went on the student exchange in 1991 to Albany, Australia. And last year my family hosted an exchange student from France. Since I returned to Alaska I have stayed involved with Rotary the entire time. I attended the RYLA program, this is an activity where we learned a lot about being a leader in our community. I also went to the District Conference in Anchorage, I saw a presentation put on by the Rotaract and Interact clubs in Anchorage. The projects they have put together and the things they have done for their community seem like they would fit in perfectly with the Fairbanks and North Pole area. I met with Peggy in Anchorage and found out she was trying to set up a Rotex in Fairbanks. I filled out an application and became a member then. I am really excited about getting this program on it's feet I think we can make a huge difference in Fairbanks. Up till now Rotaract hasn't been able to get on it's feet. I think this is a great start so far.
