ROTARACT CLUB OF INTERIOR ALASKA Rotary TerminologyRotary terminology can be a little confusing the first time you hear it. Not only are there new terms and names, but often these terms are abbreviated. This page is provided for those who don't have a clue what YEO, Rebound or a Rotaractor is. Rotary International (RI) Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 160 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs. A member of the club is called a Rotarian. Click Here to learn more.Rotaract is an international organization of service clubs for men and women aged 18-30 that fosters leadership and responsible citizenship, encourages high ethical standards in business and promotes international understanding and peace. Made up of members age 14-18 or secondary-school age, Interact gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects. Click Here to learn more.ROTEX is an organization of Rotary Youth Exchange alumni. ROTEX groups are made up of program alumni who have a desire to remain in contact with each other. They serve as a social and support group for students involved in the Youth Exchange program. Although ROTEX is not an official program of Rotary International, RI encourages the formation of ROTEX groups. Click Here to learn more.Rotary Youth Exchange Students are high school aged students selected by a sponsoring Rotary club to spend a year in a foreign country.Rotary's Youth Exchange program is open to young men and women, generally between the ages of 15-19, the sons and daughters of Rotarians and non-Rotarians alike. Applicants are selected by a sponsoring Rotary club on the basis of a written application and a personal interview. Qualified applicants are academically above average, articulate, and demonstrate community leadership skills. These exchange students are often broken into three categories: Inbounds, Outbounds, and Rebounds. Click Here to learn more. Inbound is the local status assigned to a Rotary Youth Exchange Student visiting this country from another country.Outbound is the local status assigned to a Rotary Youth Exchange Student who has been accepted into the program, but has not yet left for his or her assigned country. These students are often invited to Rotary and Rotaract events to get them familiar with their home Rotary club and to provide them a chance to meet other Rotary Exchange Students.Rebound is the status assigned to a Rotary Youth Exchange Student who has returned to their home country after their year on exchange. These students often feel an enormous obligation to give back to Rotary for the year they spent on exchange. Many of our Rotaract club members are Rebound Rotary Youth Exchange Students.Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program for community youth leaders. Young people chosen for their leadership potential attend an all-expenses-paid seminar, camp, or workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice. Click Here to learn more.The Youth Exchange Officer (YEO) is the Rotarian responsable for Rotary International Youth Exchange in a particular club. This Rotarian is the contact point for the exchange students sponsored and hosted by the club. District Rotaract Representative (DRR) is the head Rotaractor for the Rotaract District. In our District (District 5010), Elena Kornieko ( Elena.Kornienko@rotaract.org ) is our current DRR. For District 5010, a qualified DRR is a Past Rotaract President and must speak both English and Russian. We've also decided that propper pronunciation of DRR is: durrr (with a 'rolled r'). Past District Govenor (PDG) is the status given to past District Govenors ... imagine that.
